WhatMovedIt is a Shopify app made by More Checkouts Limited (“we”). It records changes to your store’s themes, products and settings and shows them next to your sales. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
The short version
- We read your store. We never edit your theme, and the app has no permission to.
- We keep theme files and daily sales totals so we can show you what changed and when.
- We don’t collect your customers’ names, emails, addresses or payment details.
- Banner counts are totals only, gathered through Shopify with your shoppers’ consent.
- When you uninstall, we delete your store’s data.
What we collect from your store
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your store’s name, domain, plan, currency and timezone | To run the app for the right store and show dates and money correctly |
| Every file in every theme, and each version of it | To show before and after for each change and compare themes |
| Store events Shopify keeps, such as a theme published or an app installed | To show where a change came from |
| Your store’s admin activity log: products, collections, pages and discounts created, edited or deleted | To show those changes on the same timeline as your theme changes |
| Each product variant’s price and compare-at price, and each change to them | To show price changes with their dates next to that day’s sales |
| Daily sales, units, page views and visits for each product and collection (Pro) | To show each product’s and collection’s figures next to the changes made to it |
| Visits by campaign, and when discounts start and end | To mark campaigns and discounts on the timeline |
| Daily sales totals, order counts and visitor counts | To show each day’s sales next to the changes made that day |
| Banner view and click counts per banner version (Pro, only if you turn it on) | To show how each version of a banner did |
| The name and email of the staff member who installs the app, from Shopify | To send the alerts and account emails you ask for |
Your customers
We don’t ask Shopify for customer records, and we don’t store customer names, emails, addresses or order details. Sales are kept as daily totals. Banner tracking uses Shopify’s customer events, which only run with the shopper’s consent where your store requires it, and we keep counts only: no IDs, IP addresses, recordings or cookies of our own.
Because we hold no customer personal data, Shopify’s customer data requests and customer deletion requests have nothing to return or delete. We still answer them as Shopify requires.
The launch list on this website
If you join the launch list, we keep your email address and the country your request came from, and use them only to tell you when WhatMovedIt is available. Ask us to remove you at any time.
This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without tracking you across sites.
Where it’s stored
Theme files are stored in Cloudflare R2. Everything else is stored in a Postgres database run by Supabase. The app itself runs on Cloudflare Workers. When you use Ask, or on Pro when we summarise a theme edit, the parts of your record needed for that answer or summary are sent to Anthropic, which provides the AI model; Anthropic doesn’t train its models on them. These are our only processors of store data, plus the email provider that sends your alerts. If you connect WhatMovedIt to Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app yourself, that app reads your record under your own account with it. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and the access token Shopify gives us is encrypted again before it’s stored.
How long we keep it
While the app is installed, we keep your store’s full change history on every plan, including the free one. That is what lets you look back later. When you uninstall, Shopify tells us 48 hours later to delete your store’s data, and we delete it then. Launch list emails are deleted once launch emails are sent, or when you ask.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the data we hold about your store or you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you’re in the UK or EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority; in the UK that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office.
